Moisture Evaluation No. 2
Amberpoint Building No. 1
Coppell, Texas
HBC Project No. 94021029.0038
Gentlemen:
HBC Engineering (HBC) has completed its second evaluation of moisture levels achieved by water
pressure injection at the above referenced site. This evaluation was performed along the north
portion of the Building No. 1 pad. The northwest portion of the pad was injected with six passes with
water and the northeast portion of the pad with four passes with water prior to this evaluation.
A total of 16 borings were drilled at the site on February 12 and 13, 2002. Borings 1 through 6 are
associated with the northwest portion of the pad and Borings 7 through 16 with the northeast portion.
Each bodng was continuously sampled to a depth of about 8 feet with steel tubes. The samples were
extruded, logged, sealed and packaged at the site for transportation to the laboratory. In the
laboratory, moisture content and hand penetrometer readings were determined on one foot intervals.
Absorption swell tests and Atterberg Limits were also pertormed on selected samples obtained from
the northwest portion of the building pad to further evaluate the volume change potential of the
injected clays.
A diagram depicting the approximate boring locations is attached. Laboratory data is provided on the
attached Summary of Laboratory Tests and Swell Tests Results.
Review of moisture content determinations, hand penetrometer, and swell tests indicate that the
moisture levels are generally several percentage points below the desired levets with some intervals
in some borings near the desired levels. Therefore, HBC recommends that the northwest portion of
the slab be injected by one additional injection using water and surfactant, and the northeast portion
of the slab be injected by three additional injections. The approximate areas to be reinjected are
shown on the attached Boring Location Diagram. Additional moisture evaluations will be required
once the additional passes with water are completed. This information was conveyed to Hill and
Wilkinson on February 14, 2002.
