Gentlemen:
HBC Engineering (HBC) has completed its subsurface investigation for the detention pond at the
Amberpoint Business Park in Coppell, TeXas. The pond has been partially constructed and is near
completion. Based on the grading plan provided to HBC, cuts of about 10 to 15 feet were required
along the north end of the pond and fills of up to about 10 feet along the south. The sides of the pond
are designed to be 4 horizontal to 1 vertical.
A total of 5 borings were drilled on February 23, 2002 along the south end of the pond to explore the
subsurface conditions of the recently constructed fill slopes. Each boring was continuously sampled
to a depth of about 15 feet below the top of slope as shown on the Attached Boring Location Diagram.
Cohesive soils were continuously sampled using steel tubes. The samples were extruded, logged,
sealed and packaged at the site for transportation to the laboratory. In the laboratory, moisture
content, hand penetrometer, Atterberg Limits and dX density tests were determined on selected
samples. Laboratory data is provided on the attached Logs of Boring.
Based on the conditions encountered in the borings about 5 to 10 feet of fill soils were present over
natural clayey sands and sandy clays. This appears to be consistent with the grading plan prepared
by Halff Associates dated January 2002. The fills consisted of site soils of generally Iow plasticity
sandy clays. Some higher plasticity clay layers were present at varying depths within the fills.
Seepage losses within the more sandy zones will likely occur. We understand that the Pond is
designed for short-term detention; thus some seepage losses in the pond are not considered cdfical.

Upon our reviewof the conditions encountered in the borings and our general site observations, the
fill sections along the south side of the pond should perform satisfactorily. The slopes as designed
are considered stable. Some shallow sloughing could occur along the side-slopes. Vegetated slopes
will help to reduce the potential for sloughing.
