Attached is a copy of the bridge sheets 22, 22 -A and 22 -B which indicate the crossection
and details for the gabion construction. There is limited soil information at the bridge
location and you preferred to take soil samples after excavation to confirm the geotextile
opening size. As we discussed on the telephone, please take soil samples at the gabion
excavation location for sieve analysis and confirmation of the soil conditions. Then
determine the percent opening size for the Carthage Mills Woven Monofilament
Geotectile recommended. Attached is information on the Carthage Mills product. Criag
Olden may request evaluation of an optional product. If we obtain a request, we will
forward product information to you for evaluation.
The contractor will need to contact you or I when grading is accomplished near the
gabion grade so you can take samples. We will ask the City to authorize payment as an
additional service for you evaluations. If the City considers the work to be part of basic
services, we will reimburse you for your services.
Please call me if you have any questions. By copy of this memo, I will advise the
Contractor to contract us when grade is exposed.
