RE: Sandy Lake Road Project ST 93-02 / TXU contract
In 1998 the City of Coppell entered into an agreement with TXU (now OnCor) to provide street
lighting along Sandy Lake Road from Denton Tap Rd. to MacArthur Blvd. The contract was for
sixty-six strcetlights plus the conduit and the wiring at a total cost of $160,000. During the
construction of Sandy Lake Road, a subcontractor for Ed Bell Construction installed the conduit for
Txru. That subcontractor will invoice the City directly for the installation of the conduit. The
conduit was installed at that time as opposed to being installed by TXU simply to facilitate ease of
construction.
During the actual placement of the streetlights only sixty-four streetlights were installed. Therefore,
OnCOR has provided a revised estimate to the City of Coppell for a total cost of $115,200. When
you factor in the cost of the conduit, the entire project will more than likely cost approximately
$150,000 or approximately $10,000 below the budgeted funds.
This memo is written to gain approval to utilize those funds to provide the interconnect wiring for
the traffic lights from Denton Tap Road to MacArthur Blvd. We did install conduit with the
project however we did not install the wiring. It is my opinion that it would be easier construction
to install the wiring at this time prior to after the final completion of Sandy Lake Road. At this
time, there are still lanes being shut down periodically for cor~ixacfion activities. To walt until
some point in the future would again create havoc with traffic on Sandy Lake Road. Also, the
installation of interconnect wire would allow us to more efficiently operate the various
intersections along Sandy Lake Road. The total cost for the interconnect wiring along Sandy Lake
Road is $14,950. This is approximately $5,000 above the savings on the streeflights. However, it
is still my opinion that now is the appropriate time to install the interconnect wiring.
If you concur with this approach, I will have the contractor submit a contract so that it can be
execu~~,,~~~._If you have any questions please give me a call.
