OBSERVATION
Town Center Drive west of Denton Tap was updated to allow for additional access to Coppell
High School in late 1999. Since then, the Town Center West Retail Center, located on the
southwest comer of the intersection of Denton Tap and Town Center Drive, has developed to
include CC's Coffee House as well as other restaurant and retail establishments. Staff has
observed that vehicles on Town Center Drive waiting to make a left turn into the east shopping
center drive cause traffic to back up onto Denton Tap, particularly in the mornings. This is due,
in part, to the increased traffic coming from the high school on Town Center Drive and the
traffic signal at Denton Tap. All of the establishments in the Town Center West Retail Center
have parking and entrances in the front as well as the back of the building.
Restricting left turns into the east shopping center drive during the heaviest morning hour would
help to eliminate this problem. IY would also prevent vehicles from blocking southbound through
traffic on Denton Tap, which is the heaviest direction during weekday mornings. Restricting this
left tam movement should not have any noticeable effect on area businesses.
