ST9904-CS020426MEMORANDUM FROM THE DEPARTMENT OF ENGINEERING To: Clay Phillips, Deputy City Manager From: Kenneth M. Griffin, P.E., Dir. of Engineering/Public Works Date: April 26, 2002 12E: S.H. 121 S T 9 9 - o ~( .t $ T ~ 5.- O I fmally made contact with John Polster, with Innovative Traffic Systems, representative for Denton County in regard to S.H. 121. Mr. Polster has informed me that the section of S.H. 121 from the split at the northwest corner of Coppell up to and through I.H. 35 is on track. He has provided me with the following timelines: 1) The section between Coppell and Lewisville (Bypass) from our northwest corner up to I.H. 35 should be let for construction in September or October of this year. 2) The section at the interchange of I.H. 35 and S.H. 121 should be let for construction in January or February of 2003. Funding is still in place for these projects. He also told me that the funding from TxDOT is still in place for the rest of S.H. 121. However, it cannot be spent as rapidly as anticipated. Therefore, the section of S.H. 121 between Carrollton and The Colony will be delayed most likely unti12004. However, the sections that impact Coppell are set to go to bid for construction late this year or early next year. I also talked to him about the section of S.H. 121 between Coppell and Grapevine. This was a follow-up to the meeting I had this week concerning the possible letting of a contract later on this year. Mr. Polster indicated that was the initial plan. However, recently it was determined that the environmental assessment would probably not be cleared this year for that project. It is anticipated that the environmental assessment will be cleared in 2003 and the design contract will potentially be let late 2003 or 2004. Denton County has money to fund the design contract for that section of S.H. 121 between Coppell and Grapevine. I hope this has answered your questions on S.H. 121. If you have any other questions please let me know. "CITY OF COPPELL ENGINEERING -EXCELLENCE BY DESIGN"
