Dear Ken:
I appreciated the opportunity to meet with Gary Sims and you last Wednesday, May 22, to
discuss the condition of the structure in the City Park adjacent to Magnolia Park.
The condition of the downstream end of the weir needs to be corrected. It appears that the
existing grouted riprap has dropped in elevation, separating itself from the concrete structure.
There appears to be no interim maintenance procedures in place to correct the current erosion in
the vicinity of the weir. The purpose of this weir is to control the outflow from the lake to

"There are no horncs within 3~J0' ± of the s~:cture. Our conversation involv:,.a. the City
investigating solutions to the erosion. I offer the following advice:
1. The construction of any improvement should somewhat be in proportion to the value
of the improvement being protected, i.e., the lake is several acres in size. One
solution is to drill piers, place metal or concrete panels behind the piers and backfill
with earth with a riprap cap.
2. Drill piers, place metal or concrete panels behind the piers and backfill the existing
situation with riprap.
It is my understanding that you have a consultant reviewing these solutions in detail; however, I
recommend that you immediately backfill the downstream end with rock riprap to avoid further
erosion to the weir structure.
