Attached is an exhibit indicating the rail treatment, spacing etc. on the ends of the
bridge. Sheet S1 a of 9 indicates the rail treatment to extend 11'- 7.75" beyond the
abutment. The rail needs to extend the full approach slap length or 25'. You pointed
this issue out during your costing of the revised rail design. We will coordinate with
Martin Ledford to revise and re -issue sheet S1 a after the Thanksgiving Holiday.
The metal rail on the approach sides of the bridge will need to include connecting the
metal guard rail. Please call me if you have any questions.

We have held review of the handrail shop drawings to be built along the top of the
retaining walls. The City has asked me to verify the grade issues in the field and
determine if part of the wall can be eliminated. Also, where the wall is constructed they
probably will not place rail where the height is 30" or less. The shop drawings indicated
galvanized steel. The design will be steel which is painted. Also, the rail details
indicated setting 6" deep inserts to receive the rail. Our plans indicate 12" deep inserts.
Additionally the City may prefer an ornamental design with more appeal than the current
rail design.
