ST9304-CS 930621 THE GINN CORPORATfON Consulting Engineers June 21, 1993 Mr. Ken Griffin City Engineer City of Coppell P.O. Box 478 Coppell, Texas 75019 RE: Beltline Road E/W Revised Cost Estimate Dear Mr. Griffin: A cursory review of the cost estimate prepared in April, 1989 for the Beltline Road E/W Project has been made. The cost estimate was compared to recent bid tabulations for similar projects. These included: 1. Royal Lane dated January, 1992; 2. Parker Road in Plano dated January, 1993; and 3. Josey Lane dated May, 1993. The unit prices varied considerably from project to project. After reviewing all of the bid tabulations, it could be generally concluded that concrete prices in 1989 were on the order of $13 - $14 per sq. yard. Today's prices for concrete paving appear to be on the order of $20 - $21 per sq. yard. This would increase the overall cost of the Beltline Road project approximately 15%. Storm sewer prices appear to be up about 10% from the 1989 prices. This would increase the overall cost approximately 21/2%. On a cost per mile basis, the construction costs are currently running $2.5 - $2.7 million per mile. Therefore, in today's market, the original cost estimate prepared in 1989 is probably within 5 - 10% of what it would cost to build the project today. For planning purposes the estimate should be increased 10-15% because it will be 1994 before it can be bid. 17103 Preston Road · Suite 205 · Dallas, Texas 75248 · Phone 214/248-4900 P.O.
