ST9304-CS 900727 COPPELL PUBLIC WORKS MEMORANDUM July 27, 1990 TO: Alan D. Ratliff, City Manager C~ FROM: Steven G. Goram Director of Public RE: Sharon William's Request Regarding the attached letter, as you are aware TU Electric has repaired the railroad spur crossing Beltllne Road between Moore and Denton Tap Road. Staff contacted Ms. Willjams and explained the circumstances surrounding the delay in repair by TU Electric and informed her that the repair to the railroad crossing was complete. If you have any questions, please let me know. SGG/sm ) CITY.. MANAGER Mr. Alan Ratliff City Manager City of Coppell P. O. Box 478 Coppell TX 75019 The week of May 7, 1990 I spoke with Sharon Taylor to express my concern that the railroad crossing on Beltline between Moore and Denton Tap has been left in such a dangerous condition for so long. At that time, I was advised that the week end of May 12 and May 13 had been scheduled as a repair time for that crossing. I again called Ms. Taylor on May 16th to inquire the status of the repairs. I was advised that the fact that Beltline is closed east of MacArthur had affected a delay in the repair of the dangerous crossing. Due to the extreme danger to human life that this crossing presents, I cannot in good conscience appreciate the logic behind this delay. Those who wish to use Denton Tap to escape Coppell during these trying times would surely utilize Bethel as a detour to do so, not Beltline Road East which is the closed section of Beltline. Those who need to access 1-35 or 635/LBJ presently attempt to go through Valley Ranch on MacArthur; therefore, that railroad crossing is of no importance. That railroad crossing has been in need of repair since I moved back to Coppell from west Texas in August, 1989. I am disappointed in myself for not addressing this matter earlier. However, the City of Coppell should have more concern for the safety of those who must travel its streets. Please provide your assistance to ensure this matter does not continue to be put on the back burner until someone is killed at that crossing. Sharon Williams
