Antcrican recently supplied approximately 2000' of 3U" ductile iron pipe through Iqughcs Supply for
installation on this job5ite. Recently several jourts that had previously been installed were excavatui and
rcntovcci frotu the trench. 'Today, I was asked by Charlie Smith of Hughes Supply to attend the jobsite,
inspect the pipe, and assets the condition of the pipe for reinstallation. The prirnan• concern was the
condition of the exterior coating of the pipe.
The pipe appeared to be in reasonably good condition. There was fairly extensive scuffing of the asphaltic
oxtcrior seal coat attd a few joint had some impact dents on the exterior of the bells. None of the pipe
appeared to have damage that would preclude the pipe from performing as intended. Tlu: c~cterior seal
coating is pritrklrily applied for cosmetic purposes and is not intended to serve as a corrosion barrier, The
dents on the bells did not appear to li<zve compromised the structural integrity of the pipes nor to haae
damaged the gasket seats of the pipes.
American labels every joint of pipe in this size range with a specific I.D. number stamped onto the fact of
Ehe pipe bell. Each ID code has ~ characters. 'The first two characters on each joint vas "4F"; then the
following piece numbers follo~~•ed: 5115, 632, 634, 636, 641, 646, 650, 652, 655, 657, 652, 664, 666, 674,
