November 10, 1998 Since the start of construction on the bridge over Denton Creek on Denton Tap Road, questions have been asked concerning what type of bridge railing would be installed on the bridge. The project was initially bid with bridge railing very similar to the ones constructed on Heartz Road by the libraps' and on Parkway Blvd. by Copperstone Addition. Those bridge railings have brick or pilaster columns with painted tubular steel between the columns. Apparently, some time in the past, there have been conversations concerning installing identical bridge rails along Belt Line Road / Denton Tap Road. Currently, the types of bridge railings are cast in place concrete bridge railings. As you drive along Denton Tap Road, those can be observed at Cottonwood Branch, Grapevine Creek and near the new IBM building. To be consistent with the existing bridge railing along Belt Line Road / Denton Tap Road, staff recommends the deletion of the bridge railing as originally bid and the inclusion of the cast-in-place concrete bridge railing. Therefore, staff recommends the approval of Change Order #1 to Rebcon, inc~ in the amount of $120,351. Staff will be available to answer any questions at the council meeting.
