ST9302-CS 931005October 5, 1993 Mr. Ken Griffin City Engineer City of Coppell 255 Parkway Coppell, TX 75019 Dear Mr. Griffin: I would like to give a suggestion with regard to the planning of the widening of Sandy Lake Rd. I live at 105 Hill Dr. next to the alley access onto Hill Dr. (see attached drawing). This alley runs parallel to Mockingbird Rd. on the east side from Sandy Lake Rd. to Cherrybark with an additional access to Hill Dr. at the north end of the block. The alley is intended for the residents of the east side of Mockingbird and the west side of Hill. However, many others use the Hill Dr. access as a short-cut to and from Sandy Lake Rd. and the northwest corner of the Woodridge subdivision. The alley is used instead of the intersection of Mapleleaf and Sandy Lake Rd. As you consider access to Sandy Lake Rd. for the future widening, I would ask that you block access to Sandy Lake Rd. from this alley. I make this request for the following reasons: > the alley is not intended to be used as a thoroughfare to and from Sandy Lake Rd. and Hill Dr. and surrounding neighborhoods; > the increased traffic through the alley creates a hazard for the residents in getting into and out of their driveways as well as for their children playing in their backyards; > easy access to a major road such as Sandy Lake increases the risk of garage burglaries that are already a problem in Coppell; > the combined proximity of the intersection of Mockingbird and Sandy Lake, CiCi's Pizza parking lot entrance/exit and the alley entrance/exit increases the likelihood of collisions. > residents on the northern end of the alley would still have access to their driveways via the Hill Dr. access. Thank you for allowing citizen input into the design of the widening of Sandy Lake Rd. I trust that you will take this opportunity to correct a dangerous situation that was created in the original design. Sincerely, Gary Treadway !
