Dear Mr. Christianson:
Touch America and Qwest are currently located in the same trench along the north side
of Bethel Road. Alex Abeyta with Power Engineers sent relocation plans for approval on
May 24, 2002. The plans left Touch America in the same location and adjusted the depth
to avoid conflicts with proposed water and storm sewer. In December 2002, Phil Porter
with SWB Consultants sent relocation plans that showed Qwest 3-foot inside the existing
and proposed right-of-way. The City has requested all along that the two utilities
coordinate their relocation. We will not allow the utilities to be installed in separate
trenches.
The construction start date for Bethel Road has been moved to April 2004. The width of
the lanes is being narrowed from 27' to 25', which will leave additional area in the right-
of-way. Right-of-way along the north side of the roadway has not been acquired. You
may relocate the utilities under the proposed pavement in these locations or wait until the
right-of-way has been acquired to relocate your utility.
