Diamond (C900) PVC Pipe bears the mark of NSF, International (NSF), and the listing of Factory Mutual (FM) (DR14 & DR18) and the list- ing of Underwriters Laborartory, Inc. (UL). Diamond (C900) PVC Pipe utilizes a gasket, per ASTM F477, to seal the integral bell socket to the spigot of the next joint (which conforms to the requirements of ASTM D3139.) Each male end is beveled to facilitate joint assembly, and the spigot is reference marked in insure proper insertion depth. Diamond furnished lubricant is to be used in the joining process. SHORT FORM Specification for Diamond C900 PVC Water Pipe Diamond C900 PVC Water Pipe shall be made of compounds conforming to ASTM D-1784 with a cell classification of 12454B. Diamond C900 shall meet all the dimensional, chemical, and physical requirements as outlined in AWWA C900 and will be supplied in 20 foot lay- ing lengths. A retaining ring of rigid plastic holds the sealing ring securely in position during transport and for pipe assembly. The front lip prevents dirt on the spigot from entering the joint. The main lip comprises a combined lip and compression section. The rear lip locates the seal in the socket groove and absorbs any permissible variations in the groove. These are not engineered drawings and actual product may vary from them. Tolerances of Product Standards are applicable to nominal dimensions. General dimensions of diagrams are furnished to indicate approximate profile scheme only. Pipe material and design: The Rieber seal is an integral sealing ring that is applied by the pipe manufacturer using a special patented socket-forming technique. A ~ross-sectional view of the pipe socket is shown in the figure below. DUCTILE IRON RETAINER GLANDS Mechanical Joint Retainer Glands are designed to provide a method for restrain- ing mechanical joint pipe and fittings and other standardized mechanical joints against possible joint separation, rupture or blow-out caused by internal water pressure. The set screws are square-headed with Type C knurled cup points, and are shipped already assembled in the Glands. They are manufactured of 4140 grade alloy steel, and are heat treated to a Rockwall 'C' 45/ 53 case hardness. Tee-head bolts and gaskets are not included, but may be ordered separately. Recommended torque for set screws is 75 foot pounds, and set screws on opposite sides of the glands should be tightened alternately. When the valve is closed and pressurized, the small air release odfice will open to allow small pockets of air to escape automatically and independently of the large orifice. The arge orifice shall also allow large volumes of air to enter during pipeline drainage to break the vacuum. The body inlet must be baffled to protect the float from direct forces of rush ng air and water to prevent premature va ve shut-off. The Buna-N seat must be fastened to the valve cover without distortion for drop tight shut-off. The floats shall be heavy stainless steel. The plug or float shall be center guided through hex bushings for positive shut-off. Valve exterior to be painted with Red Oxide Palmer Paint as accepted by the FDA for use in Potable Water. AIR/VACUUM VALVES with~) LARGE ORIFICE to vent large volumes of air for efficient filling and draining of pipelines. This protects against vacuum and water column separation or pipeline collapse. TYPE 2. AIR RELEASE VALVES with ~) SMALL ORIFICE for continuous venting of air pockets as they accumulate in a pressurized pipeline. When the above types are combined, the result is a COMBINATION AIR VALVE. The Combination Air Valve is available in a SINGLE BODY DOUBLE ORIFICE shown here, or in a DUPLEX arrangement {see Back Page). The single body is most popular due to its smaller overall size and resulting space saving inside a valve vault. It is available in 1" to 8" sizes. HOW ~T WORKS; sizes l" through 6" incorporate a poppet {or plug) which rests freely inside the lever frame. The center stem of the poppet has a SMALL ORIFICE through it. When water enters the main valve body it raises the float and float arm which puts the needle, attached to the arm, in contact with the poppet stem while lifting the poppet to the shut-off position against the LARGE ORIFICE. As air accumulates inside the main valve body the water is displaced. The float arm fails away from the poppet stem to expose the small orifice and the pocket of air is vented. Water re-enters the main valve body lifting the float arm back to the shut-off position and the cycle repeats as air accumulates. As long as the main valve body is under pressure, the poppet stays closed because the pressure differential across the large orifice is more than the poppet can overcome. If, however, a negative pressure occurs inside the main valve body, the poppet will drop open to allow air in and prevent a vacuum from forming in the pipeline. Size 8" functions in the same manner, but, instead of a poppet, a float is used for shutting off the large orifice and a separate internal float operated lever mechanism is incorporated with a small odfice for venting smaller pockets of air when the system is pressurized. Every Combination Air Valve is hydrostatically seat and shell tested before it leaves our factory to insure quality performance in the field.
