Ken,
Suzan told me that you are looking into the funding possibilities for the
Bethel Road/Downtown project. You may have already looked into this, but
there are a few opportunities to obtain grant money for projects like this.
I haven't researched it, but we are working on several projects that are
funded through STEP grants. These are from TEA21 funding administered by
TxDOT thru the Statewide Transportation Enhancement Program. They typically
fund bike lanes, trails, and streetscape improvements on projects such as
this one. There is some information on the TxDOT website. I'd be happy to
look into it further or give you a copy of a couple applications that I have
in the office. I've also heard about grant opportunities from the Main
Street USA program. We have some staff in the office that are familiar with
that program if you are interested.
Please let me know if these are things that you've already considered or if
you would like some more information. I'd be happy to help in anyway
possible.
