May 23, 2003 Theresa Turner City of Coppell Engineering & Public Works 255 Parkway Boulevard Coppell, Texas 75019 Re: Disapproved Flatwork Inspection 125 Shadydale Lane Lot 6A2, Block B, Shadydale Acres Coppell, Texas Dear Theresa: Pursuant to your request, this letter shall serve as our formal request that the City of Coppell waive the culvert pipe requirement for each driveway approach at the above referenced project. As we have discussed, existing conditions along Shady Oak and Shadydale Lanes, together with City requirements for minimum 18" diameter culvert pipes, make the installation of culvert pipes impracticable at this particular location. Consequently, we propose to install driveway approaches with swales that will allow storm water to pass across each driveway and continue along the existing bar ditch. We have set the swale elevations below the existing driveway approach to the west (upstream) and above the existing driveway approach along Shadydale Lane (downstream), which should prevent any significant ponding in the bar ditch or on the driveway approaches. Unfortunately, existing conditions dictate less than optimal solutions, however we feel we are taking reasonable action to minimize any drainage concerns.
