RE: Sandy Lake Haul
Steve, I met with Abb Johnson, Superintendent for Pyramid today
at 3:15 p.m. as requested. I told him that anytime that they are
crossing Sandy Lake Rd., they have to have a stop sign up and flag-
men inplace at all times.
While delivering an extremely stern lecture on the consequences
of this situation ever happening again and reaffirming that flagmen
had to be on duty at all times while hauling was taking place,
it was brought to my attention that K. V. Cluff, Manager for Pyramid
had negotiated a deal with Lacy Walters Construction to swop select
fill material from pit for suitable fill from on of Lacy Walters
Construction sites. It seems that Walters trucks were using the
crossing without a flagman. At that point I informed Abb (and
later informed K.V. in Houston) that the haul path crossing of
Sandy Lake Rd. was Pyramid's responsibility and I would hold no-
one else responsible for it. I also informed them that if anyone
in anyway endangered or posed a dangerous situation to traffic,
that it would be Pyramid who would bear repercussions. At this
time it was brought up that Lacy Walters intended to do there hauling
at night and had intended to start tonight. I promptly called
Lacy Walters of Walters Construction and informed him that they
could not do any night work until they had scheduled a meeting:
with Public Works and the Police Dept. to discuss procedures and
provisions for hauling at night, if it were to be aloud. I also
informed him that his night hauling operation was SHUT DOWN until
said meeting could be arranged and the roper departments notified.
He agreed and called his 50 trucks back. Whsre upon I notified Tom
Dixon, Abb Johnson,, and'K.V: Cluff-that•-I had.
I will endeavor to schedule a meeting with yourself, Chief Griffin,
and myself as soon as feasible.
