Rone Engineers arrived at the above location as per the request of Michael Cox, the superintendent for Duke
Construction Company, the general contractor, to begin monitoring the steel erection by Ramco Steel
Erectors. The results of today's inspection are listed as follows:
I. W.Q.T.'s not on file for review. After conversation with the steel erection superintendent, the
W.Q.T.'s will be provided on the next inspection. Rone will carry this item as open until such time as
proper W.Q.T.'s are provided for review. (non compliant)
II. Bar joist inspection of the roof framing at grid location A.3 to H and 10 through 15 is as follows;
A. *At this time, all joist seat welds were not de- slagged which is non compliant with AWS D1.1 -02
code requirements. After a conversation with the superintendent for Duke Construction Company
and the structural engineer, Steve Burns with Engineering Analysts and Ramco Steel Erectors
who stated that the welds at the joist bearing plates will not be de- slagged as per written directive
by the structural engineer. Rone has been instructed by the structural engineer to simply verify
that there appears to be fillet welds installed on each side of the joist seat. Rone has agreed to
inspect per the inspection criteria given as long as written documentation is provided by the
structural engineer accepting the responsibility for visual acceptance criteria that can not be
performed by Rone Engineers as per AWS D1.1 -02. Until documentation has been received and

reviewed, this item will be open per AWS D1.1 -02 code and specification requirements. (non
compliant)
III. The horizontal bridging was installed and welded as per the job specifications and SJI specifications
and AWS D1.1 -02, compliant.
IV. The diagonal x- bracing was installed and welded as per the SJI specifications and AWS D1.1 -02 code
requirements, and AISC specifications for the snug -tight tensioning method concerning the bolted
connection locations, compliant.
V. The perimeter edge angle was installed and field welded. The welds were not de- slagged in all
locations. Rone is simply verifying there appears to be welded attachments to the bar joist and embeds.
RFI documentation is required from the structural engineer of record on the non deslagging of the fillet
field welds to determine the visual weld profile per A.W.S. code requirements. This item of concern
will remain an open issue until documentation is received and reviewed.
*Note: Rone is in receipt of the RFI's for bar joist wall pockets that were field modified to accept the
bar joists.The RFI's are included in today's report.
