Re: Coppell High School
Shop Drawings for Water and Sewer
Dear Mike:
In response to your request to review the submitted shop
drawings for water and sewer improvements for the Coppell High
School, we offer the following comments:
The iron gate valves manufactured by Kennedy
Valve Company have been rejected because they do not
meet the AWWA -C- 509 -80 Spec as called for on your
Architectural Sheet 2.24 of City Water Details.

2. Tapping sleeves shall be stainless steel if' the
pipe to be tapped is PVC; however, gray cast iron
may be used if the water line to be tapped is
ductile cast iron pipe. Therefore, before purchase
of the tapping sleeves are made by the contractor,
verification should be made in the field as to the
material of the existing water line.
3. Fire hydrant details furnished by Mueller Company is
in compliance with the AWWA standard C -502 as
V 1- specified in the City of Coppell details. However,
" final approval regarding style and design should be
made by the City of Coppell before any purchase is
made.
4. In reference to those water meters to be installed
on the site, the City of Coppell Subdivision
Ordinance requires that all meters "be purchased
from the City or shall be of materials approved by
the City." Therefore no approval or rejection can
be made regarding this item.
5. Other items submitted (i.e. piping, service saddles,
double check, and master meter assemblies) appear to
be in compliance with the City of Coppell's
specifications.

Mike, even though we have reviewed all of these submittals to
see if they comply with the specifications, we strongly
recommend that final approval be given by the City of Coppell
since these submittals represent materials to be installed in
improvements which are considered "public" and, therefore,
will be maintained and owned by the City of Coppell.
Therefore, our review and comments of these submittals should
only be considered as a cursory review and not final approval
for construction.
We would also encourage that the contractor obtain a copy of
the City of Coppell Subdivision Ordinance dated November 1985
and referenced as Ordinance No. 341 for any additional
information regarding the construction of public water and
sewer improvements in the City of Coppell. We feel like this
may assist him in addition to discussing with the City
those improvements which the City Inspectors will be
inspecting on this job.
If we can be of any further assistance to you, please feel
free to call.
Sincerely,
TEAGUE NALL AND PERKINS, INC.
