BUD:$ FINANCIAL REVIEW:~ CITY MANAGER REVIEW: Agenda Request Form - Revised 1/94 To: From: RE: MEMORANDUM Mayor and City Council Kenneth M. Griffin, P.E., Asst. City Manager/Dir. Public Works Consideration of entering into a contract with Weir and Associates, Inc. in the amount of $240,000 for the design of Denton Tap Road from Cottonwood Creek to the north City Limits and the design of a 16" water line as shown on the City of Coppell Master Plan (Project # ST 94-01) and authorizing the Mayor to sign. Date: January 10, 1995 As the City Council may be aware, the City of Lewisville is currently in the process of completing their construction plans to begin construction in 1995 on the section of Denton Tap Road from F.M. 3040 to the City of Coppell north City Limits. When this roadway section is completed, there will be only one section of Denton Tap Road that is substandard. To be proactive in this regard, the City of Coppell has been in contact with a consultant to provide the engineering services necessary to design the project. During the selection of the Sandy Lake Road consultant, Weir and Associates was the panel's second choice for the project. Therefore, they are being utilized on this project without going through an additional fonnal request for proposal process. The Engineer's estimate for this project is approximately 3.6 million dollars. That number includes a bridge in the million dollar range. However, there are several other substantial drainage costs involved. The number also includes approximately $250,000 for the construction of the water line. The initial proposal for the design costs was $296,800. That number has been reduced to $240,000 during the review of the Scope of Services. Staff recommends approval of the design contract with Weir and Associates, Inc. in the amount of $240,000. Staff will be available to answer any questions at the Council meeting.
