Dear Ms. Bates:
Per our conversation today, the City of Coppell is submitting two (2) sets of plans for the above
project on the northbound State Highway 121 Frontage Road near Northpoint Drive.
The civil drawings from the design engineer, Dowdey, Anderson & Associates, Inc., are for the
approval of two driveways onto the frontage road. The City of Coppell is requesting verification
from TxDOT that the driveway locations, approaches, and drainage structures meet your
specifications. You indicated that you already have the signed permit applications in your
possession.
The engineer has agreed that all disturbed areas will be replaced with sod and that Type `S' concrete
will be used for the box culvert under the driveway. The driveway spacing shown was also verbally
approved via a recent meeting between the design engineer for the project, Ms. Prather, and Ms.
Prather's supervisor.
For your information, I have included all relevant information that has been exchanged between Ms.
Prather and me to date.

Attached is a copy of the current TxDOT driveway permit. Also attached is a driveway detail sheet and
standards that you will need to include in the plans with your submittal. All of the other attachments are
just guidelines to make sure that you are in compliance. The standards are for the one -way sign (R6 -1 R)
which is now required to be installed in front of all driveways (opposite side of roadway), which accesses
any frontage road. Please indicate, somewhere on the plans, that the sign is to be set on a Type "A"
mount, with a Triangular Slip Base. Place the sign a minimum distance of 2 ft from back of curb (6 ft is
preferred if possible). All standards can be downloaded from our website at www.dot.state.mus just click
on 'Business', then 'TxDOT CAD Standard Plan Files', and then accept the disclaimer, and last click on
'Traffic Engineering Standard Plan Sheets'. Please note that the standards are in MicroStation format.
The sign standards are labeled R(2) -97, SMD(1) - SMD(5) -98, which need to be included in the plans. If
there are sidewalks, whether existing or proposed near the driveway, you will need to follow the Ped -02
standard and include it with your submittal.
As far as drainage is concerned, draining the entire property through the driveway and onto the frontage
road will not be accepted. This has caused localized flooding and hydroplaning problems in the past.
Make sure that you collect most your runoff on your property and if the drainage area map for the existing
highway includes your property, you may connect to the existing drainage system.
Submit two (2) sets of site, grading, and drainage plans (including above details and all applicable
standards), along with a filled -out, signed & dated driveway permit for approval. Please send to my
attention at the address below.

All construction and materials shall be subject to inspection and approved by the State.
3. Maintenance of facilities constructed hereunder shall be the responsibility of the Grantee, and the State reserves the right to
require any changes, maintenance or repairs as may be necessary to provide protection of life or property on or adjacent to
the highway. Changes in design will be made only with approval of the State.
4. The Grantee shall hold harmless the State and its duly appointed agents and employees against any action for personal
injury or property damage sustained by reason of the exercise of this permit.
5. Except for regulatory and guide signs at county roads and city streets, the Grantee shall not erect any sign on or extending
over any portion of the highway right of way, and vehicle service fixtures such as service pumps, vendor stands, or tanks shall
be located at least 3.6 meters (12 feet) from the right of way line to ensure that any vehicle services from these fixtures will be
off the highway.
6. This permit will become null and void if the above- referenced driveway facilities are not constructed within six (6) months from
the issuance date of this permit.
7. The Grantee will contact the State's representative Tommy McKinnon
telephone, ( 817 ) 822.0831 at least twenty -four (24) hours prior to beginning the work authorized by this permit.
