Dear Mr. Lane:
Thank you for sending us plans showing the proiect referenced above. After reviewing our
files, it appears that the project area cuts across portions of archeological sites 41DL252
and 296. These sites have never been evaluated for their eligibility for inclusion in the
National Register of Historic Places. Also, most of the area to be reconstructed has not
been surveyed by professional archeologists.
An archeological survey undertaken by a qualified professional should be conducted within the
project area. An Antiquities permit must be secured fron~ this office by y our archeological
contractor prior to conducting any archeological fieldwork. Please be sure to ask prospective
contractors if they are eligible to be issued a permit.
The survey should include shovel tests and/or backhoe trenches sufficient to identify
subsurface cultural materials. Collections of archeological materials from any sites found during
the survey must be curated at an approved repository. A report of investigations should be
produced in conformance with the Council of Texas Archeologists Guidelines for Reports.
We will continue review of this project upon receipt of the requested documentation. If you
