WA9701-CS031007 (2)PRELIMINARY October 7, 2003 Mr. Gary Hendricks Birkhoff, Hendricks & Conway, L.L.P. 7502 Greenville Avenue, 4220 Dallas, Texas 75231 RE: Denton Tap Road Water Line (Bethel to Airline) WA 97 -01 90% Review Comments Dear Mr. Hendricks: Following a review of the above referenced plans and specifications, the following comments are offered for your consideration: PLANS: General Comments Change the proposed alignment of the 16 -inch water line from Station 0 +00 to approximate Station 16 +50. Move the 16 -inch to the 8 -inch water line location and eliminate the 8 -and 2 -inch water lines. The old 2 -inch line is abandoned. The new 16 -inch water line only needs to be 42 inches deep. The existing 8 -inch line is approximately eight to nine feet deep. Lay the 16 -inch water line on top of existing 8 -inch water line. 2. Connect the existing irrigation system to the new 16 -inch water line as necessary. 3. Connect the fire hydrants to the new 16 -inch water line. New hydrants are to be installed. 4. Maintain the minimum horizontal separation distance of 9 -foot from the existing 12 -inch sewer line. 5. Bore under Denton Tap at approximate Station 16 +80 and move the new 16 -inch water to the median. The water line will be located in the median to the tie -in at the 16 -inch water line at Bethel Road. 6. When crossing under existing utilities, maintain 24- inches of separation between the new 16 -inch water line, or protect the new line. COVER SHEET 1. Add the project number "WA 97 -01" to the cover sheet. SHEET NO. 1 1. NOTE 2 — The Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plan shall conform to the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality regulations and not the EPA. 2. NOTE 14 — Change "90% Standard Proctor" to "95% Standard Proctor ". 3. NOTE 16 — Revise the note to read as follows: Airline Dr., Belt Line Rd., Southwestern Blvd., Denton Tap Rd., Bethel Rd., and access to all adjacent property shall remain open to traffic at all times. 4. NOTE 19 — Add the following sentence: Any vegetation or landscaping damaged due to contractor's lack of timeliness in repairing irrigation system shall be replaced at contractor's expense. 5. NOTE 24, Second Sentence —Add "of' after "Removal ". SHEET NO. 2 1. At Station 0 +00, abandon the 8 -inch line at the tie -in to the 12 -inch line by digging up and removing the 8 -inch valve and capping the water line. 2. At approximate Station 2 +80 there is an 8 -inch line that crosses Belt Line Road. Connect existing 8 -inch water line to proposed 16 -inch water line. SHEET NO. 3 1. Businesses on the east side of Denton Tap have services that connect to the existing 8 -inch water line. Need to connect services to proposed 16 -inch water line. Show the location of the services on the plans. 2. Need to work around the existing gas line. SHEET NO. 4 1. There is no existing 12 -inch water line at Station 14 +83.61. 2. Change "Gateway Blvd." to "Southwestern Blvd." 2 SHEET NO. 5 1. Change "Gateway Blvd." to "Southwestern Blvd." 2. The existing 24 -inch water line at Station 15 +82.10 is RCCP. The 24 "x16" tapping sleeve and valve will not work. There is an air release valve located on the 24 -inch water line. 3. Connect the existing 8 -inch water line at Station 16 +84.55 to the new 16 -inch water line. Leave a lead for the fire hydrant located at approximate Station 17 +50. 4. Dig up and cap the existing 8 -inch water line where it ties into the existing 10- inch water line at approximate Station 17 +55. Connect the existing 10 -inch water line into the new 16 -inch water line. SHEET NO. 6 1. Need to locate the existing 8 -inch water line that serves the businesses to the east and show on plans. Connect the 8 -inch water line to the new 16 -inch line. 2. Bore the existing median openings. 3. At approximate Station 23 +70 install 8 -inch water line to the west. Install fire hydrant lead and services to the north and stub -out with inline valve to the south. SHEET NO. 7 1. Bore under the existing median openings. 2. Install air release valves on either side of the bore under the railroad. What is the status of the DART permit for the bore? 3. Cut and plug the existing 8 -inch water line at approximate Station 16 +35 and connect to the new 16 -inch water line. 4. Change "Baptist Foundation of Texas" to "First Baptist Church of Coppell." SHEET NO. 8 1. Change "Baptist Foundation of Texas" to "First Baptist Church of Coppell." 2. Bore under the existing median openings. 3. Show service to the First Baptist Church of Coppell property. 3 4. Is a service to the plant nursery on the east side of Denton Tap required? Could potentially tie into the existing 8 -inch on the east side that is stubbed to the nursery north property line. SHEET NO. 9 1. Bethel Road at the intersection of Denton Tap will be widened to five lanes. Need to modify proposed water line improvements so that they do conflict with the proposed roadway improvements. 2. Connect the newl6 -inch water line to the existing 16 -inch water line. Cut and plug the existing 8 -inch water line. SPECIFICATIONS: General Comments 1. The specifications need to be revised with the current set of boilerplate specifications. 2. Need to provide more detail in the pay item descriptions.
