Opticom Priority Control System Detector Models 7il, 721, ?22 Description The 700 series Opticom detectors ~ransform optical emery' detected from an approaching, velxicl_emounted Opticom emitter to an electrical signal. The elecaScal signal is transmi[ted along a cable to the Opticom phase selector or discriminator for processing. Detectors a~e mom~ted at or near the intersection that permits a direct, unobstructed line-of-sigkt to vehicle approaches. DeTectors may be mounted on span wire, ~r~st arm, or other appropriate structures Models 711,721 and 722 offer significant adYm~ces and flexibility for specific intersection applications. Toe detectors are designed for cornznon appUcatmns in three configurations: one direction - the single cIammel 711; two direction - the single channel 72 1; and two direction, two output detection - the dual chamael 722. All 700 series Optlcom detectors greatly reduce installaficm and life cycle costs through their mod;dar design, adjustable tubes and compatibility, with existing Ol~ficom intersection a~d vehicle equipment. A complete firmware update requires only ten minut~es, and does not require hardware changes or EPROM replacements. A back-lighted 4-line by 40-character superhvist LCD display provides full menu screens for ease of data entry. The display maintains an optimum contrast and Prightness over the entire NEMA specified temperature range, using special temperature-compensating circuitry. The menu-driven format and context sensitive help screens eliminate need for programming instructions or loOk-up codes. The Model 980 Contmlter consists of only two printed circuit boards (three with optional modem) and an open frame power supply. The CPU/display board and the I/O board utilize machine tooled sockets for all integrated circuits for easy maintenance. An identiflcetien silkscreen on each circuit board cleady labels all components. No special tools or exlender cards are needed for trOubIeshooting. The real-time clock maintains accurate timing by utilizing a "super capacitor'' which allows accuracy of 0.005% during a 24-hour time period. Retention time during power failures for the real time clock is extendible to 30 consecutive days, Unique to the Naztec traffic controller product Iine is the flexiblli~ of user programmeble barriers. Four (4) separate batteries e!iow programming for appli_r'"~tions from one (!) to eight (B) phases in eac~h ban-Jer. A 20-position keyboard containing 4 red function keys, 6 gray cursor movement keys, and t0 white digit keys with built in audio/tactile feedback provides user-friendly enhanced data entry. Built-in diagnostics provide for improYed maintenance and easier Fepairs. Internal diagnostics allow operator tests on all input and ou'~put signals, RAM devices, and memory. A built-in EEPROM eraser allows for a "clear-all" memory function. Two RS-232 pods and an optional FSI( modem pod are available with each secondary unit. These pods are keyboard programmable with setectable baud rates from 300 to 19.2K with full and half duplex options. Various communication configurations allow the user multiple interfaces to other cabinet devices: conflict monitor, preemption equipment, detectors, WWV clocks, modems, notebooks, printers, etc. A RS-485 SDLC Bus Interface Port is provided 'or all TS2 Applications. In Pulse Mode, the detector provides a 1 50 millisecond pulse ~m response [o a detection, useful for counting and volume calculations. Ir~ Presence Mode, the output from the detector Js active as long as a vehicle is present on the loop. In ShortPr~sence Mode*, presence detection is limited to 20 minutes in length. In Presence Timing Mode', presence detection length is programmable in 2 second intervals from 2 to 2022 seconds. The Model 722 detector also provides a count output pin for each channel that outputs a 150 ms pulse each time a car enters the loop. The Delay T/ming option causes the output to be delayed up to 63 seconds after the beginning of the detection. The Extend timing option allows the output to remain active up to 15.75 seconds after the end of the detection. In pulse mode, the minimum gap between vehicles can be set from .5 seconds to 2.25 seconds. The use of separate LEDs for detection and fault informaMon eases setup and diagnos§cs. The DETECT LED provides separate indications for detect, delay, and extension. The FAULT LED uses 8 Hz, 2 Hz, 1/2 Hz, and continuous-on modes to indicate loop shorted, opened, inductance change of more than 25%, and watchdo~ reset, respectively. Keep rubber hose to absolute minimum length and plan pipe with as few 90 degree angles as possible. Samples for slump and strength tests should be taken ~ discharge end of hose for strength guarantee to be valid. To prime pump lines, a minimum of 8.0 sack grout should be used for lubrication, tn the case of strength concrete, equivalent strength grout should be used if the ~out remains in the placement. Pump mixes are based on minimum cement content pumped at ground level. The testing procedures used were those specified in the Strong~vell Quatity Assurance Manual, Method 4.0, w~ch were adapted from the Western Under~ound Commi~ee Recommend Guide 3.6, "_'Non-concrete E_nc!osures". Specific details and numer/ca! results of the test are on file at Stron~eIt's zn~neenn~ Department. Unless noted in the test results, *dqe parts are representative sm-npies of norm~fi production operations using s*&ndard Swon~elI manufactudr~g procedures, processes, and materials. PROCEDUnRE la conducting this test, the cover is placed in a PGt324BA[2 Quazite® box, then positioned on a fi~d test frame. The load is applied through a 10' x 10" x 1' steel distribution plate over a robber pad. The dis~bution plate and rubber pad are centered on the cover. T2e box and cover are then centered beneath the Enerpac 50,000 pound load ram. A preload of 500 pounds is applied and then released to seat the dism'oution plate. Loading is then increased untii failure of the test specimen occurs or the m/n/mm static 'rest load is achieved. Failure is indicated by the specimen's inability to withstand ~n increase in load. RESULTS The PGI324HA covers sustain a m/nirnum vertical test load of 22,568 pounds M'ak no structural damage and do not exceed a deflection of 0.500" at the design load of 15,000 pounds. CONCLUSION The PGt324HA Quazite® covers meet the strucmmt requirements for use in areas subject to pedestrian and occasional non-deliberate vehicular traffic.
