Railroad Spur
Dear Ms. Karahan:
Dallas County has extensively researched the transactions between TU Electric (formerly
Dallas Power and Light) and the County regarding the original construction of Belt Line
Road and the railroad spur. On November 21, 1957, Dallas County granted DP &L
permission to construct the spur across Belt Line Road. In that agreement, DP &L is charged
with the responsibility for maintaining the railroad spur if DP &L desires to continue using
said spur. The preliminary estimate for reconstructing the spur is $53,100. A layout sheet
for the proposed spur is attached.
The hazard index for the railroad spur is extremely low due to the infrequent train traffic.
No AAS14TO or MUTCO warrant exists for an active traffic control device at the crossing.
The crossing will require passive signs and roadway markings.
Dallas County and the City of Coppell are currently reviewing the preliminary plans for the
Belt Line Road reconstruction. After the preliminary plans are approved; a copy of the plans
will be sent to you for your information. The current project schedule is as follows:
Complete Plans November, 1995
Begin Construction Mid, 1996
Complete Construction Fall, 1997
Project construction is subject to funding availability. The construction estimate is $4.2
million dollars and the project is currently showing a shortfall of over a million dollars.
