ST9304-CS 941216DALLAS COUNTY PUBLIC WORKS December 16, 1994 Mr. Ken Griffin, P.E. Assistant City Manager/City Engineer City of Coppell 255 Parkway Boulevard Coppell, TX 75019 Belt Line Road -- Project No. 490-403.1 / 91-829 Bridge Sidewalks Dear Mr. Griffin: Currently the Grapevine Springs bridge on this project is designed without sidewalks. The additional construction costs for adding two, 5' wide sidewalks to the bridge is estimated at $110,000. The cost for constructing the walks would be the City of Coppell's expense. The County has forwarded your remaining alignment questions and comments to the consultant. As soon as Coppell finalizes the sidewalk decision and chooses between 3:1 or 4:1 side slopes, the consultant will complete and return the alignment revisions. Please respond to these two outstanding issues by December 30, 1994, so that this project can remain on schedule. Please contact Jill M. Schneberger at 653-7151 if you have any questions concerning this project. Sincerely, Allen Bud Beene, P.E. Director of Public Wor~f~ R29/COPPELL 1. LTR JMS/jm~ 411 Elm Street Dallas, Texas 75202 653-7151 To: From: RE: D ate: MEMORANDUM Jim Witt, City Manager Kenneth M. Griffin, P.E., Asst. City Manager/Dir. Public Works Consideration to authorize Dallas County to include sidewalks on the Beltline Road bridge over Grapevine Springs (ST 93-04). January 10, 1995 Upon review of the conceptual plans for Beltline Road, I noted that Dallas County was not providing for sidewalks on the Beltline Road bridge over Grapevine Springs. Upon discussion with Dallas County, I was informed that the County does not fund sidewalks as part of their construction project. If the City desires to pursue the construction of sidewalks on the bridge, there will be an additional cost to the City. The County has provided an estimate showing the estimated construction cost for a 5 foot sidewalk on both sides of the bridge to be $110,000.00. The inclusion of sidewalks along Beltline Road would have questionable benefit because of the commercial nature of the property and the large portion of the land which is owned and operated by the Northlake Power Plant. You may also recall that there is currently a proposal to include a trail adjacent to the DART Railroad Line. It is my recommendation that we inform Dallas County to not include sidewalks on the bridge. If you concur please let me know so I can inform Dallas County as soon as possible.
