Suzan,
We do not require them to isolate fire hydrants. Each fire hydrant has it's own valve off of the tap into the main
line. Normally, we like to see valves on the main line at street intersections and any other location were another
line is tapped onto the main. On long sections were there are not any other taps, main line valves should be
installed every 1200' to 1500'. We will look at the spacing during plan review and make any necessary
adjustments at that time.
Let me know if you need anything else.

Glenn:
Freese & Nichols has another question about the proposed water line. Their current design isolates each fire
hydrant. This increases the number of 12" valves and the cost. Can they isolate for instance 2 fire hydrants
instead of one and decrease the cost by decreasing the number of 12" valves. From the details and ordinances
they have not seen a design criteria regarding this. Do we have a preference?
Thanks
