Re: Grapevine Creek Sewer Trunk Main Branch I & II Coppell, Texas Kenko Job #9306 * Grapevine Creek Park Area, Mockingbird to Moore Road Dear Sir: Kenko has been notified of the concern by some of the residents of Coppell regarding the ecosystem of the referenced project/area, The purpose of this letter is to document some of the "partnering" efforts by the city staff and the contractor to minimize damage in this area, First, it should be noted that the City Council upon recommendation from the city staff elected to utilize the micro- tunnelling method of construction from Station 34+00 to Station 41+25 of the new sewer line. This was an extremely prudent decision especially considering the close proximity of Grapevine Creek and the high probability of ecological damage due to open trench construction in this area. Secondly, the contractor in the spirit of cooperation and in the attempt of minimizing damage to the existing trees and native plant life, opted to use smaller equipment for the construction in this area. A 650 Komatsu backhoe and an 8250 Terex dozer was "parked" and smaller equipment rented by the contractor in this endeavor. It should go without sayin9 that the increased equipment cost and reduced productivity substantially documents the contractors desire to minimize damage. Thirdly, it should be noted that every effort was made to save each and every tree of substantial growth. Only when the required construction allowed no alternative was a tree removed. Although Kenko could have had the area cleared at no cost by wood cutters interested in the wood, Kenko performed the work with its own forces to eliminate unnecessary damage to remaining fauna. However, it is hoped that this will reassure the good citizens of Coppell of the intent of both the City and the contractor to complete the necessary construction to provide adequate facilities for the citizens with minimal damage to the ecology.
