RE: Allen Road Park Lake Masonry Wall
The Engineering Department has reviewed the Project Specifications & Details for the Allen Road
Park Lake Masonry Wall Repair and we have the following comments to offer:
1. Define the size and spacing of the reinforcing steel to ensure the footing in Figure 3 and Figure 4
is constructed as intended.
2. On Figure 3, how is the connection made from the new footing to the reconstructed masonry
facade? How about the reconstructed facade and the intact facade to remain?
3. What happens if more of the existing facade is damaged during the excavation and/or removal
of the damaged facade?
4. On the Figure 4 repair, is the contractor required to remove the old mortar and/or weathered
shale along the base of the wall?
5. Is the existing stone from the failed facade to be reused for the Figure 3 repair?
6. The bid is to be for a lump sum amount, however, in the summary of work there are
approximate quantities for the Figure 3 and Figure 4 repair. What happens if the Quantity of
type 3 tums out to be greater than what is shown in the section? Will there be a change order,
and if so, would that be based off the contractor's schedule of values?
7. Ensure the removal and offsite disposal of all excavated material and all excess mortar and stone
from the sections to be repaired.
8. The contractor must arrange lab testing.
9. State the working hours of this project.
10. Overtime for inspection services will be charged to the contractor.

12. Explain planned method of dewatering under Earthwork Section 02200 Paragraph 3.3. This
generic language does not specify how this will be done.
13. Provide details of access to project area.
14. Provide detailed plan of project staging area.
