Dear Mr. Sugg:
MasTec North Amedca, Inc, (MasTec) has numerous directional bore rigs of various sizes that
we utilize on a daily basis. MasTec previously owned a Barco Services, Inc. directional bore rig
with pullback capability of 500,000 pounds up until January 2004. Previous to this MasTec
owned and operated several directional bore rigs ranging from 220,000 pound~ ,,, 7,De0
pounds, the larger rigs included two (2) Amedcan Auger 220,000 pound machines, three (3)
140,000 pound machines, and two (2) 90,000 pound machines. Due to the economic conditions
and the shortage of work for a directional bore rig of that size MasTec sold these rigs. At the
present time we own and operate directional drilling rigs ranging in size from 140,000pounds to
7,000 pounds
After compiling calculations on the pipe it is determined that the safe purl strength on the pipe is
228,000 pounds. Due to the safe pull strength of the conduit MasTec proposes utilization of a
140,000 pound directional bore rig. The use of this rig will assure that the safe pull strength is
not exceeded.
MasTec has relationships with equipment manufacturers and equipment rental establishments
that would allow us to rent larger directionaJ bore equipment should it be necessary to connp[ete
the work.
We look fonNard to the potential of working with you on this project. If you have any questions
feel free to contact David Holland or Roger Cole at (214) 571-2500.
