ST9801-CS 990110Major issues involving the construction of the box culvert across Coppell Road: · Box culvert is a critical path item in that paving cannot proceed through this area without the box completed · The contract states that "In preparing bids and a construction sequencing pain, the Contractor shall maintain a minimum of two lanes of traffic", p.3-8, 1.25 · The contract also states that "Coppell Road can also be closed between Parkway Blvd. and Westminster Way with City Council approval during the time the 3-10'x6' MBC is constructed. It is desired that two way traffic be maintained, however based on City approval, portions of the roadway may be turned to on way traffic for a portion of the construction sequence." Addendum AI-6, SECTION 3 · Contractor has asked for additional compensation for box construction while maintaining two-way traffic, in amount of $240,000. · City has responded that additional pay quantities would be considered for the box construction, but that is all · Staff does not support closing Coppell Road for box construction and is therefore reluctant to propose such to City Council · Contractor has stated that staff stated that the road would be closed and box constructed in single phase. Staff kept F&N phasing plan out of bid set of construction plans specifically to keep this idea out of the bids. · Contractor has asked for time extension due to the box being a critical path item. Staff has not prevented box from being constructed, only that Coppell Road could not be closed for that construction activity.
