The policy has been fire hydrants shall be located within 3 to 6 feet of the approved driving surface. If
needed, on a case by case basis, we can look at distances greater than this...just not something we want
to make a habit of.
SO, to answer your questions:
Is there a problem with them being more than the 3-foot...No
Is there a maximum distance that the fire hydrants can be located behind a curb? 6 feet

I am reviewing the construction plans for Bethel Road (Freeport to Denton Tap) and Coppell Road (Bethel
Road to Cooper). The proposed sidewalks are adjacent to the curb in most locations. The proposed fire
hydrants will have to be located behind the sidewalks, which puts them more that 3-foot behind the curb.
Is there a problem with them being more than the 3-foot. Is there a maximum distance that the fire
hydrants can be located behind a curb?
