ST9302-CS 940906 (3)The Honorable Tom Mor~on
Mayor: City of Coppell
Town Center
Coppell, Texas
Dear Mayor Morton,
September 6, 1994
09-07-94~, ?(:
I w~te to express re~! concern with *.he proposed TU po]es that would be placed
in the center median of the expanded Sandy Lake Road. My concern relates to
two specific issues.
1. I think an independent engineering firm needs to advise the community
as to the possible health risk which the electromagnetism may cause. I do not
believe we can rely solely on the opinion of TU. This is a special concern for the
parish, for it well may happen that we will convert the shopping center into a
parochial school. It is imperative that we be certain that we would place the
children in no jeopardy.
2. Aesthetically, utility poles of the proposed height would be nothing more
than an ugly blight in the community. Because of the height, the poles would be
the de facto landmark that would identify the City of Coppell. They could be seen
from a great distance. We would become the city of the very high electric poles.
Since Sandy Lake Road is the principle East -West street in the City and heavily
trafficked, I think it deserves greater aesthetic consideration.
The Council has done very well in the past about supporting projects that would
beautify the City. Recent efforts to insure that homeowners maintain their own
property are commendable. I urge you and the Council to bring that same
commitment to the issue of utility poles running down the median on Sandy Lake
Road.
