Dear Steve:
Dallas Water Utilities has reviewed the paving and drainage design plans for Sandy
Lake Road (from Old Denton Tap to MacArthur) provided on June 28 by the City of
Coppell's engineering consultant Greg D. Saunders, Rady & Associates. A copy of the
project report indicating the review comm.~ents is attached. Please consider these
comments in your design and contact me if you have any questions or comments.
Dallas Water Utilities' primary concern is the estimated 3 months time required to
construct the proposed 30' water main relocation in the same alignment as the existing
main. Following this'Scenario, it appears that a 3 month shutdown of supply through
the 30' main to the Town of Flower Mound would be required. We are currently
looking at the anticipated water demands that we would expect Flower Mound to have
during the winter months, with the idea that Flower Mound could possibly be supplied
for this time through a connection to the Lewisville system. However, this is a very
precadous~ to place one of Dallas Water Utilities' wholesale customers in, and
operation~~ are not in favor of it. Please detail your intentions re(~ardin.q
maintain;~'' ~f through the 30' main while it is t(~ be placed out of service.
Of course, the possibility still exists that the Lewisville supply will prove to be
inadequate. If this is the case, then other alternatives, such as realignment of the
relocation, must be considered. I will let you know the results of our evaluation of
Flower Mound's winter-time demands and the supply available from Lewisville as soon
as it is completed.

1. Routine adjustments of DWU facilities are required in advance of paving
construction.

Appurtenance adjustments of DWUfacilities are required in conjunction
with paving construction.
Replace approximately 5370 linear feet of existing 30" water
transmission main at seven different locations to clear the proposed
paving.

PIPE SIZE SREET # STATION
21" RCP 43 46+12~
21" RCP 47 65+25~
Please re-design the proposed 21" storm sewers to clear our existing
30" water main by 1.0' vertically.
SUMMARY:
1. Ail items such as, closure sections, test fittings, etc., must be
called out and drawn on the design plans for DWU's 30" water main.
2. Include a manhole with blowoff and flap valve at low points of the
proposed 30" water main.
®
Ail appurtenance notes pertaining to the proposed 30" water main need
to be referenced to DWU's Drawings, Details and Standard Appurtenances
for Water and Wastewater Pipe Construction Methods, dated March, 1991.
The plans indicate that the proposed 30" water main will be constructed
in the same alignment as that of the existing 30" water main. I
estimate a three month shutdown of the 30" water main in order to
accomodate this type of construction. Will the City of Flower Mound
have sufficient water supply for its residents during the construction
period?
Please coordinate with T.U. Electric in order to alleviate conflicts
between their proposed transmission poles and DWU's existing/proposed
30" water main.
6. Please contact the proper agency regarding conflicts between the
proposed street lights and DWU's existing/proposed 30" water main.
