Steve,
Thank you for the help and direction you provided to me during our phone conversation on January 11.
Since the Woodridge Homeowners Association (WI-IA) is in its infancy any project we have considered has
proven to be an education.
As we discussed the most pressing problem WI-IA is concerned with is the fence on the ~outh ~ide of Sandy lake
Road just west of MacArthur. It is safe to say that we are all in agreement that the fence has to be replaced. The
current structure cannot wait till Sandy Lake is completed in 1997. The first issue is who~e property is the fe~ce
on? We realize that much discussion has happened on the ownership question and that the concensus is that it
probably does rest on city property. As you stated the city does not currently have money in the budget to
replace the fence.
The second issue is how can the fence be repaired or replaced? This is where WHA may be able to help. We
propose a public-private partnership to meet the needs of the city and of the residents of Wooclridge. lfWHA
can organize a volunteer effort, can the city help in the donation of any special equipment needs and help in
the at cost purchasing and/or donation of any surplus materials, for the construction of a new fence? This
may be the best solution for both parties. The result would be the elimination of an obvious eyesore for the city
and an enhancement for the Woodridge community.
The type offence that WHA would like to construct is a more substantial and attractive style of wooden fence
called a board on b0ardfon~. The style has a base row of slats that do not quite touch with an overlapping row of
slats that covers the gap. A brick column would stand at each end of the fence to give the fence a more stable
and attractive appearance. The fence would be six feet high. Since this fence has such high visibility, and needs
to be built to stand for several years, WHA feels this is a good fence solution for the money. WI-IA has been quoted $7-
$10 per foot, treated, for the 998 foot length.
WI-IA hopes this proposal is a viable one and that the city will consider it. Please call with any concerns, questions
or suggestions. WI-IA has schedule a neighborhood meeting for February 22 and would like to deliver information
concerning the fence to the community at that time. Is this timeframe workable with you to acquire the infor-
marion needed? Please call with any concerns, questions, or suggestions. We look forward to hearing from you
on this matter.
