ST9401-CS 980320MH~ ~b '~ ~l:50PM WIER_~ ASSOCIATES ~ P.~ ME IMf 0 RA'N ID U[M To: BraWl Reid Philip Graham March 20, 1998 ~{~:~JT~': Denrich-Tap Road Bridge Hike & Bike Trails 'The purpose of this memo is to discuss the conceptual designs of the Hike & Bi,*~e Trails provided with this memo. These designs need to be reviewed quickly and decisions made in order to complete tl3e design and plans for the trails in time to add thsm ss an addendum to the Denton-Tap Road bidding. This quadrant has proven to be the easiest to design and has the fewest issues in regards to the path to resolve. This alignment will result in th~ removal of one tree, e:n 8" ©ak a'i [he intersection of ';~he through path and the connection to Denton-Tap F~{~ed. ,A retaining wall will be required to save the trees along the bank of Denton C~'e,-~k. This wall will have a maximum height of 8'-0". A gravity retaining wall will also :.;~ ~meded 8long the proposed parking lot with a maximum height of 4'-6". The other i,.,~u~.s regarding this quadrant are related to the parking lot grading and layout relative t,o ~he Denton--C'ap Road plans. (Refer to Exhibits "E") The southern drive approach dOeS .~ot mstch the location or width of the drive shown on the Denton-Tap Road plans ,.,vhich have been reviewed and revised per the review. The proposed grading for the southern drive will work with the proposed street grade but the northern drive will be ~pproxima~ely 1.5' Iow relative to the street once it is improved, t have provided copies o? '(he paving plans (plan & profile) as pad. of Exhibit "E". Exhibits ~B" & 'C" Northeast Quadrant of bridge: The northeast quadrant is proving the most difficult to design and the most issues ;.o resolve. ~ have provided two alignment options for the path and will discuss a third. Exhibit "B" indicates the option that will require the least rig~qt-of-way. -fhis option ',;~iil r~su'.t in the removal of a 12" Hackber~ and 18" Pecan tree, Gravity wails wilt be r~quired go prevent the removal of three etm trees near the bridge and pecan trees near the inte, csaci:ior~ of ~:he through path and tl~e connection to Denton-Tap Road. j~~hows the option that has the least impact on the existing trees. This ~lignment will result in the removal of only the 12' Hackberry tree. Gravity walls can be const~-uctad [o prev®nt the removal of any of the pecan trees. '['he '~.hird option for the northeast quadrant is to construct a temporary 6' pedestrian connection as is being proposed on the northwest quadrant, The path on north sid6 crf the creek does not presently connect to developed parks or trails and pecestrian connsction may be warranted at the present time. Exhibi~ "O' Northwest Quadrant of bridge: The proposed alignment of the pedestrian connection will result in the removal of ~ Elm tree. The bridge construction will result in the removal of a 28" Elm. A ~ravity well wi)l bs needed to keep the watkway close to the road in order to save the E. Im at the top of the slope. ~f they walkway is moved to the west to eliminate the the 14~ Elm wil! probably end up being removed or dying as a result of the grading ad.~acent to it. Please review these alignments as soon as possible and provide us with your comments and decisions so that we may complete the plans and incorporate them into the Denton-Tap Road project bid. If a meeting is needed to go over these alignments p!e:ase con[ac~ Ulys Lane or myself at metro 817-467-7700. Thank you. cc.: ~,'like Martin
