Trees a COncern in W. Bethel Reconstruction
ByJeanMu~h
Coppell City Engineer Ken
Griffin received input from the
community Tuesday regarding
planned reconstruction of W.
Bethel Road in old downtown
Coppell. Several dozen resi-
dents, landowners and business
owners from the old downtown
area met to discuss planning is-
sues, including design of the
road and bridges, lighting,
crosswalks for children, drain-
age and sewer plans, and street
banners.
Salvaging trees, always an
issue is Coppell, was a primary
concern of participants. Grif-
fin was asked to consider shift-
ing the road further north to re-
tain more trees on the south side
or transplant existing trees.
Concern was also voiced about
whether amenities would extend
to the Grapevine Creek bridge.
The redesigned road will
fall within the City's historical
district, allowing flexibility to
achieve the desired old Coppell
look.
Griffin also discussed the
necessity of obtaining right-of-
way from landowners and out-
lined a plan providing "an offer
letter from the City. Another
meeting will be held in 2005.
Participant Joe Shirley.brought along photographs to Il-
lustrate his concern about possible loss of trees.
