City Engineer/Director of Public Works City of Coppell P. O. Box 478 Coppell, Texas 75019 Re: Denton Tap Road 16" Water Line (Airline Drive to Bethel Road) Revised Scope of Work Engineering Services Agreement - Amendment No. 1 Dear Mr. Griffin: Pursuant to your meeting in late October 2003 with Mr. Gary Hendricks of our firm, we have reviewed the impact of the alignment revision as it relates to the opinion of probable construction cost and to the engineering design effort required to complete the necessary revisions to the design plans. The change in scope items are listed below: Installation of water line in median and with removal of existing lines where installation is adjacent to curb line north of Airline, Installation of additional fire hydrants and connections to new and existing fire hydrants under existing pavement, Installation of service connections to existing business customers along the alignment, Additional traffic control, and Possible replacement of storm drainage appurtenances along the median alignment segment. We have estimated revised quantities to establish a new probable opinion of construction cost. Selecting the least cost median alternative, it appears that the project construction cost will increase by approximately $130,000 from our original estimate of $430,000 to $560,000 (see attached). In regards to the Engineering Fees to re-design the project to 90% complete as it stands today, we offer the following breakdown: Design ......................................................... additional $14,000 lump sum Construction ................................................ no change Contract Administration ............................. no change Field Survey ................................................ no change Other ........................................................... no change Mr. Kenneth Griffin, P.E. City of Coppell September 9, 2004 Page 2 of 2 Although we believe the plans are currently at 90% completion, we will be able to bring the design back to that point for less than 45% of the original design phase fee. There are enough survey dollars in the current agreement to complete the additional survey work required to detail the median and east side of the roadway where necessary. Otherwise there are no design related affects on the contract. We request this contract amendment to cover the additional engineering services to Re-Design the 16-Inch Waterline along the revised alignment. If you are in agreement with this contract amendment, please have one copy executed on behalf of the City of Coppell and retumed to our office. Sincerely yours/~7'/ ,-~Douglas .I~howers, P.E.
