Following a review of the plans and specifications, the following comments are offered for your consideration: PLANS: General Comments 1. Verify the wording on the engineer's seal should it read 'registered or licensed? 2. Valve spacing - should more valves be added to the water line? 3. If fire hydrants are installed instead of air release valves, the Utilities Department will be required to send a crew out weekly to bleed off all of the fire hydrants. Can the fire hydrants be eliminated and air release valves installed? 4. If the fire hydrants are eliminated in locations where air release valves are required, will fire hydrants need to be installed in other locations? 5. Use both concrete blocking and restraint glands at all bends, fittings, etc. Cover Sheet 1. CITY COUNCIL - The City Council list needs to be updated as shown on the attached list. 2. Change the date on the plans. Sheet No. 1 1. NOTE 2 & NOTE 22 - state the same information. Note 22 can be deleted. The city does not have an erosion and sedimentation control manual - they have standard construction details and ordinances. 2. NOTE 26 & NOTE 27 Is there a conflict between the two notes? Station 0+25 to Station 1+40 - the plans call for the removal of 309.6 S.Y. of concrete pavement within the right-of-way and on the Staton property. Is this concrete to be replaced? Sheet No. 3 1. Is it necessary to replace the 7.1 S.Y. of concrete at the drive located at Station 4+50? Sheet No. 13 1. Station 50+43.34 - the plan view shows a cross, while the note calls for two TEES to be installed. Correct the plan view to show the two TEEs. Sheet No. 21 1. Will an air release valve be required at the end of Line "B" at approximate Station 12+747 Sheet No. 22 1. No curve is required in the installation of Line "C". The curvature can be made up in one joint of pipe. 2. May need tapping sleeve and valve depending on the location of the valve on the existing 8-inch water line. (Record drawing attached) SPECIFICATIONS: General Comments 1. Specifications have not been updated to include the improvements added at the Magnolia Park Addition or the SCI Denton Tap properties. 2. Provide list of required submittals. 3. Provide list of ductile iron fittings with the weight we will pay for each fitting. 4. All ductile iron fittings shall have poly-wrap and any flanged fittings shall one zinc nut per fitting. 5. Specifications for the project sign are attached. Bid Schedule 1. Need to consider adding the following pay items to the bid schedule: a. Mobilization b. 6-Inch Ductile kon Pipe c. 8-Inch PVC Water Line d. 8-Inch Gate Valve e. Remove and Replace Existing Post and Cable Fence 2. Pay Item I~4 - Should the ductile iron fittings be in ton units as opposed to pounds? 3. Pay Item I-7 - Correct the 'Description and Price in Words~ (Cents per Pound) to agree with the 'Unit' (Each). 4. Pay Items I- 12 and I-13 - Need to ensure that removal is not being paid for twice. 5. Pay Item I-18 - Change 'Guide' to 'Guard' in the pay item description. 6. Pay Item 1-20 - Does this pay item include thrust blocking? Page 3-7 1. Item 2.1.5 - Is water jetting going to be allowed? Description of Pay Items 1. Add any additional bid items to the pay item descriptions. 2. Pay Item #2 - Remove the following sentence: 'Where necessary, mechanical joint restraint and/or thrust blocking is considered to be subsidiary to this bid item.' Revise the last sentence to read: 'Measurement and payment shall be made on the basis of the bid price per linear foot (L.F.) and shall be the total compensation for furnishing all labor, materials and equipment necessary to complete the work, including excavation of bore bits, backfill, testing and disinfection as delineated by the Plans and in accordance with the City of Coppell details.' 3. Pay Item # 4 - Specify whether the iron fittings are long or short joints. Should the payment be made on the basis of bid price per ton? Should 'thrust blocking' and 'mechanical .joint restraint' be added to the measurement and payment description? 4. Pay Item #9 - Add the following sentence: 'All bends and fittings necessary to connect the fire hydrant assemblies to the various water lines are included in the cost of the fire hydrant assembly.' 5. Pay Item #11 - Add the following sentences: 'Removal of the concrete shall be accomplished leaving a clean vertical side. Damaged vertical sides shall be resawed, removed and replaced at the Contractor's expense. The limit of pay shall be to the original saw line.' 6. Pay Item #13 - Should flowable fill be considered for backfill under the permanent driveways? 7. Pay Item # 17 Add the following sentences: 'The Contractor shall make every effort to protect any livestock that is encountered during construction. Fences shall be repaired and replaced immediately or temporary fences installed to prevent the escape of livestock. No excavated area shall be left open overnight without adequate fencing to restrain livestock.' 8. Pay Item #18 - Change 'Guide' to 'Guard'. 9. Pay Item #20 - Will concrete thrust blocking be paid for under this item? 10. Pay Item #21 - Where will this pay item be used?
