RE: Sandy Lake Road Project #ST 93-02 / Driveway
Dear Mr. Nevels:
This is provided to address .yOUr concerns regarding the driveway, onto: Sandy Lake Road.
Initially the City removed the existing: driveway and:replaced: half of..the :driveway_.to match the
new elevation:of Sandy Lake Road. The initial installation caused:concern to the Church because
the new slope for the driveway was too steep causing some vehicles and/or trailers to scrape
when pulling into the church.
The City considered a number of possible solutions, two of which were presented to you at our
meeting on February 16, 2000. Both solutions would require removing the newly constructed
driveway approaches. Also, existing pavemem on the Church property would have to be
removed including one 9'x18' parking space on each side of the driveway. The additional
pavement removal would be necessary to decrease the slope of the driveway.
One option is to replace all of the pavement that is removed. The new pavemem in the two
parking spaces would be sloped from one side to the other because of the new grade on the
driveway. This would mean that the parking space west of the driveway would slope such that
when a vehicle pulled straight into the parking space, the left from tire would be higher than the
right fi.om tire. Just the opposite would occur on the east side of the driveway, the right front
tire would be higher than the left from tire.
The second option is to eliminate both on-site parking spaces and create "parking islands" on
each side of the driveway.. By doing this the elevation difference between ..the driveway and the
next parking space .could be accomplished with a sloped parking island. . The parking islands
would be curbed to match the curbs in the curb parking lot, filled with dirtandhydro-mulched.
Based on our conversation this option, is the Church's preference (see attached exhibit)::
If you are in agreement with the 2aa option please have the designated person sign this letter and
return to me. Once we have received the signed letter, work will begin on the driveway. After
the work has been completed to your satisfaction, please sign and return the acceptance
statement. After that has been received, the church will be responsible for maintaining the
improvements on their property. Please contact me with any questions or concerns you may
have.
Sincerely,
Michael A. Martin, P.E.
