Doug:
I am working on the permission letters to the property owners along the
Denton Tap water line. How long do you think it will take to construct
this project, and how long do you think it will take to bore one 8-inch
water line? I want to give the owners an idea of how long each bore
will take.
The short bores under the pavement perpendicular to the roadway should
take one or two days to bore. The hole for the pit may be open for a
week from start to finish. I would tell the property owners that each
bore can be accomplished in less than 2 weeks. That would included all
the work not just the boring activity.
The total length of time may affect the cost of the job. There are a
lot of service issues that could be problematic, so allowing them to set
the time frame in their bid will be important. I still think that 120
to 150 days is reasonable. It is half as long as the 121 WL project,
however it is more complex.
This may be a good estimate of time.
Doug
Thanks

Doug:
I have incorporated Keith's comments into my previous comments. I
have
also talked with Ken and Glen - we are going to try and eliminate the
northern most bore at Dickey's and move the fire hydrant to the south
of the existing drive. I will have to talk with the fire marshall on
this matter before we proceed - he is out of the office until next
week. I
will also write a letter to the church asking for permission to go
outside of the existing sewer and slope easement to bore. There is
another bore on the Davis Credit Shelter Trust property and I will
contact them about going on to their property for a bore. That will
only leave Dickey's. I will set up a meeting once I have had a chance
to talk with the fire marshall.
PLANS:
1. Ownership of property at Station 16+69 - is it right-of-way or
private property?
Belongs to Park West Commerce Center as Lot 3, Block 2, according to
Dallas CAD. Noted on the plans.
2. Maintain the minimum horizontat separation distance of 9-foot from
the existing 12-inch sewer line. (Station 0+71.8, Station 25+89,
Station
28+32.55)
0+71 we will case the bore
25+89 we will case the bore
28+32 we will concrete encase the water line
3. When crossing under existing utilities, maintain 24-inches of
separation between the new 16-inch water line, or require the
contractor
to protect the new 16-inch line.
We will add a note to the general notes on sheet 1.
4. Will a temporary construction easement for a bore pit be required
on
the west side of the west right-of-way line at the following
locations:
Station 20+30 (Davis Credit Shelter Trust)
Station 23+18 (Kountry Donuts Addition)
Station 24+35 (Henggeler Properties, L.P.)
Station 26+20 (Henggeler Properties, L.P.)
Station 29+15 (First Baptist Church of Coppell)
Station 34+12 (First Baptist Church of Coppell)
Station 36+93 (First Baptist Church of Coppell)
We will show temporary easements behind the property lines at the
required locations on the alignment.
It appears that part of the curb inlet is outside the right-of-way on
the First Baptist Church of Coppeil property. I am not sure if there
is sufficient room behind the right-of-way line to install a fire
hydrant.
This is where we show the ROW line. When the Baptist Church plats the
property, it is likely that additional ROW will be dedicated.
Otherwise, the City may work with the church to acquire the ROW now and
put the FH wherever they desire.
You are correct, the ROW is very narrow and the FH will be in the
existing easements behind the curb line.
The Fire Department wants three feet of clearance around a hydrant - I
will have to ask the Fire Marshall. Fire hydrants need to be located
3 to 6 feet behind the curb.
At station 39+87 we have moved the FH to 3.5 feet behind the curb.

6. What is the status of the DART permit for the bore?
Nothing has been prepared for DART as of yet.
7. Change "First Baptist of Coppell" to "First Baptist Church of
Coppell."
Done.
8. The median opening show open cut installation do we want to let the
contractor have the option of boring under the existing median
openings?
In our last meeting, we discussed having an alternate for boring from
Station 17+30 to 25+50.
We shallowed the line up to between 4 and 5 feet below grade so that
open cut was possible and cost effective,
9. The plans show the 2-inch water line connected to the 16-inch water
line with a 2-inch threaded connection. This does not conform to
city's standard details - use tapping saddle and corporation stop.
We have corrected the plan sheets.
SHEET NO. 1
1. Note 3 - The note should be changed to 'City of Coppell Erosion and
Sediment Control Ordinance'.
2. Note 14 - The City of Coppell Standard Construction Details show a
flowable fill subgrade for pavement cut removal and replacement.
3. Note 18 - Add the following sentence: Any vegetation or landscaping
damaged due to contractor's lack of timeliness in repairing irrigation
system shall be replaced at contractor's expense.
4, Note 20 - Any signs that are necessary for the safe and orderly
flow
of traffic shall be maintained or replaced with a temporary sign.
5. Note 21 - Change '90%' to '95%'.
6. Are Notes 22 and 24 relevant to this project?
7. Note 25 - What drives the time window for the water service? I made
a judgement that with the correct amount of notification, a business
could be without water up to 10 am and after 3 pm to facilitate the
issues associated with disconnectJreconnect. If the City would like to
change this, it is fine with me. just let me know your desire.
Modifications to the other notes have been made.
SHEET NO. 2
1. Is an air release valve required at Station 0+007
We are not aware of the grade of the 12 inch lines where we make the
initial connection for the new 16 inch line.
If the City desires an Air Release Valve at this location, we can
include it.
2. Does the existing 2-inch water line at Station 4+99.4 need to be
tied in to the new water line?
We are investigating and will include if the line crosses to the median
for irrigation at this point.
ENGINEERS OPINION OF PROBABLE COST:
1. Is casing pipe required in order to bore PVC pipe?
Not required, except when crossing TxDOT or DART ROW. Soil conditions
may predicate casing if the soil caves. We are anticipating the soil
will not cave.
2. Do we want to relocate existing fire hydrants or install new?
This question was asked early on and we never received direction to
remove the old and install new FH. If this is the City's desire please
advise.
3. Item No. 10 - Is it supposed to be gate valve as opposed to
butterfly valve?
Yes, change has been made.
4. Item No. 16 - I see three connections to existing fire hydrants -
Station 2+62, Station 11 +71, and Station 39+87.
Done.
5. Item 18 (Provide Connection to Existing 24" Water Line) and Item 25
(Furnish and Install 24" x 16" Tapping Sleeve and Valve) - combine
intoone pay item.
6. Item 19 (Provide Connection to Existing 16" Water Line) and Item 26
(Furnish and Install 16" x 16" Tapping Sleeve and Valve) - combine
into
one pay item.
1. Item 20 (Provide Connection to Existing 12" Water Line) and Item 27
(Furnish and Install 12" x 12" Tapping Sleeve and Valve) - combine
into
one pay item.
2. item 21 (Provide Connection to Existing 10" Water Line) and Item 28
(Furnish and Install 10" x 10" Tapping Sleeve and Valve) - combine
into
one pay item.
This will be changed in the bid tab.
3. Item 22 (Provide Connection to Existing 8" Water Line) and Item 29
(Furnish and Install 8" x 8" Tapping Sleeve and Valve) - combine into
one pay item. There are four tapping sleeves and valves and six
connections - so two connections must be made with tees.
~uzala fayio~-97-Oi '~enton ¢';~ .... --I~~ ~
This will be changed in the bid tab.
4. Item 30 - could be made subsidiary to the installation of the water
Pine.
Since we included it as a separated item in the 121 WL project, we have
assumed that you desire it bid in the same manner on this project.
