Accessibility Ramps Along Samuel Boulevard
Dear Ms. Nobles:
The public meeting for citizen input on possible projects for Community Development
Block Grant (CDBG) FY 2005 funding was held on April 26, 2005. The City of Coppell
is proposing to reconstruct the accessibility ramps along the west sidewalk of Samuel
Boulevard, from Parkway Boulevard to MacArthur Boulevard. The current ramps at the
intersecting streets and alleys are not compliant with the American with Disabilities Act
(ADA) or the Texas Accessibility Standards.
Samuel Boulevard is a two-lane undivided roadway that is classified as a major
thoroughfare within the city. Providing ADA compliant ramps along this thoroughfare
will benefit the entire city as well as the surrounding residents. This portion of sidewalk
is adjacent to five subdivisions that have ingress and egress off of Samuel Boulevard.
Elementary school age children from these subdivisions attend Lee Elementary School.
The school is located on Samuel Boulevard, south of Parkway Boulevard, and is within
walking distance from these subdivisions. There are two churches located on Samuel
Boulevard, south of Parkway Boulevard, and a third church located on MacArthur
Boulevard. The Coppell Aquatic and Recreation Center and the Andy Brown Parks are
located on Parkway Boulevard. This sidewalk provides pedestrian access to those
churches and the city park facilities.
Enclosed are a location map, an exhibit showing the location of surrounding entities, and
the cost estimate. Please review this information and let us know if this proposed project
meets the eligibility requirements for CDBG FY 2005 funding.
If so, the city will submit the full application for funding by the
June 3, 2005 deadline.
