Ken Griffin - Siren Location From: John Patterson To: Ken Griffin Date: 3/9/2005 4:10 PM Subject: Siren Location Ken, I have reviewed the exhibits you sent for the relocation of Siren #6 (Sandy Lake and Branchwood Trail) This afternoon, I drove all of the proposed sites. After deliberating all the possible options, I have concluded the following: Option #1 Not feasible as that particular pole will no doubt be carrying very high voltage of electricity to/from the substation. The issue is particularly dealing with that much electricity will interfer with the radio recption that controls the siren. As such, we effectively lose that siren due to interference. Option #2 Not feasible for the same as above. I don't know exactly where either pole would be situated, but if it is where I anticipate, there is not enough room to allow the step off distance from the high voltage lines and the radio receiver. Again, without adequate room from those wires, we lose that siren. Option #3 Not feasible as the placement of this siren is directly behind a number of residences and we know that if we do this we will have even more complaints. Also, this moves the siren closer to the church as opposed to as much distance as possible with any corner to the north of the church. Electricity may also be an issue as we might not be able to tie the siren into a power source that far back from the church. Also, the church property will be severly damaged by the installation equipment and by any subsequent equipment that will have to come in to do future repairs. Option #4 Not feasible as a traffic control pole is approximately 1/2 the normal size of the siren pole. The loss of height will impact the warning area of the siren as it is not as high as needed. Option 5 Best option as it is far enough away from the church and the residences that they will be warned without the siren being in their backyards. In the future, there will be electical lines that we will be able to tie into. The siren will be a sufficient distance from the high voltage lines. It will be easily accessible for the installation and any future maintenance. I hope this will meet our needs and we can move as quickly on this issue as we can.
