Has the proposed project encountered, or is it likely to encounter, any significant
opposition or other obstacles based on environmental or other types of concern? If
yes, please describe.
No. A public meeting was held and concern was expressed about the number of
trees that will need to be removed during construction.
Describe the economic, environmental, congestion mitigation, and safety benefits
associated with completion of the project.
Environmental: Numerous trees will be removed, but the City is budgeting
about $500,000 for landscaping to minimize the impact.
Congestion Mitigation: Two all-way stops~ will be replaced with traffic signals.
This will improve traffic flow and decrease travel time. The improvements will
also increase the intersection capaci~, of the Denton Tap and Sandy Lake
intersection. There are two lanes that approach the intersection from the east
heading west. When they reach this intersection, there is only one through lane
so the outside lane is forced to turn right. This causes about a quarter mile
back each morning for motorists trying to proceed through the intersection
heading west toward SH-121.
Safety Benefits: There have been several accidents at an intersecting street
17.
where a traffic light is proposed with this proiect. Also~ water routinely
overtops the street causing a dangerous driving surface. The improved
drainage will resolve that issue.
Has the project already received funding through the State's federal-aid highway or
transit formula apportionments or from other Federal, State, local, or private funds?
If yes, how much and from what source?
