Rc Subgrade Preparation & Paving Specifications Request for Modification CoppeU Trade Center Dear Keith, Please accept this letter as our formal request to modi~' the subgrad¢ preparation and paving specitlcations on the referenced prctiect. Our request is based on recommendations made by tlBC/Terracon. According to the recommendations contained in the Geoteckmical Engineering Report prepared by HBC/Terracof tbr The Ht)lt Companies (HBC Job No, 9404523) dated January 14, 2005, lime stabilixa~ion is not necessary lbr the paving subgrade. The last sentence in the next-to-last paragraph on Page 14 ~ta~e~ "Rigid (concrete) pavements may be placed on an unstabilized, properly ct, mpactcd subgradc." lhe ncxt-to-las~ paragraph on Page 13 states "On-site or similar in:ported soils placed within the building footprint and benealh parking areas should bc compacted to a minhnmn of 95 percent of ASI'M 1/3 698 maximum dry. density at or above optinrum moisture content." Based on these recommendations, we rcquest Coppell's requirement tbr lime stabilization under paving - including fire lanes, truck docks and parking areas - be deleted. In a subsequest letter report prepared this week, HBC/Terracon has designed a concrete mix design which utilizes fly ash. Subject to the recommencations and qualifications contained in their report, we request fly ash be allowed in the concrete mix design for onsite paving. We will have ttBC/Terracon providc 1\111 copies of both of the referenced repons. Please call us at the number above or Chris Eddy (HBC/l'en'acon) at 214-630-1010 if you need any additional in fi)mn ati o n. Sincerely.
