Dear Mr. ~ D~qqt.,5: .~
Please accept our gratitude for your support in helping to capture and relocate Myron Duck to a
new home. Myron, his new name, is a Runner Mix duck who has miraculously survived at the
pond located on land between Sandy Lake Road and 121 Highway where your new project will
be located. Being a Runner mix, Myron cannot fly and could not leave even when his Mallard
friends would take to the sky, though he was seen valiantly flying only to get a few feet into the
air. When the construction began he was even more at risk of becoming a victim of a coyote, fox,
bobcat or raccoon after having escaped them for 6 years.
When W9 found out about Myron we set about trying to capture him and take him in. We have
been active in rehabilitating domestic waterfowl for about l0 years as members of the Greater
North Texas Animal Rescue League and wanted to provide such a brave survivor with a new
home. We made several surveys to investigate the situation to determine what we would need to
capture him. It was decided that we would have to wait until the brush and trees around the pond
were removed before we would have a reasonable chance to capture him.
We kept watch on the development and finally, noticed that the development was reaching the
pond area. On March 23~a, we were successful in capturing Myron. We kept Myron in a pen for a
few days so that he could adjust to his new surroundings. We then released him to mix with the
other ducks. He has adjusted and is doing quite well even to the point of escorting a Pekin female
duck around.
We want to acknowledge all who were connected to this joint effort. We begin with the Trammel
Crow people who were gracious in allowing us complete access to the area. They put us in touch
with John Jacobson of McFadden and Miller, Inc. who put us in touch with field supervisor Ted
O'Neal. Everyone was so cooperative and sensitive to our mission. The two workers on site
were most instrumental in helping us herd Myron to a relatively quick capture. Not to be left out
of the accolades was the Coppell City inspector who even coordinated with a boat from the Parks
Department if we needed it.
Again, we wish to thank all of you for your support and assistance. Myron survived predators
and the elements for over 6 years without being able to fly and your help and compassion will
allow him to live out the rest of his life in a protected environment.
