Rick,
This fax is regarding the Parshall flume and manhole shown on Sheet DC-7 of the
DeForest Lift Station plans. I understand from Greg Hooten that you had a question as
to why the manhole was specified to be filled with concrete or sand covered with
concrete to the top of the flume. This is recommended by the flume and manhole
manufacturer. If the void spaces on either side of the flume are not filled, water can
accumulate and become stagnant, which creates odors. Mosquitoes can also become
a problem, resulting in a health issue_ If you have any additional questions or concerns,
