ST9904-CS 980611COMM. PCT ~2 S. JACOBS Fax:972-$94-4097 Jun I1 '98 1~:54 P.02 SANDY JACOBS D~NTON COUNTY COMMISSIONER Dear SH121 Task Force Member: The month of June includes two meetings regarding the SH121 Improvement Program. As you know, this is the project that stretches from DFW Airport all the way to McKinney, The project includes the SH121 Bypaes that begins near the intersection of the existing SH121 and Old Denton Road and proceeds southwesterly over IH35 back into SH121 about a half-mile south of Raytheon in Lewisville. Our regular SH121 Task Force meeting will be held tomorrow, June 12% At this time, the state will provide an update on all segments of the SH121 projects. On June 17'", a special meeting has been arranged with Jay Nelson, District Engineer for Dallas area District 18. The purpose of this meeting is to specifically discuss the possibility of expediting completion of the main lanes on the SH121 Bypass segment. This meeting is scheduled for 10 a.m, at Fdic Lay in Room 3B1. This is a timely meeting as it relates to changes in state funding due to the renewal and funding reformul-ation for federal transportation dollars. Due to the changes in Washington, D.C., the State of Texas will receive millions of dollars more in funding. This could have a ver~ positive impact on our area. At the last regularly scheduled SH121 Task Force meeting, many of the business represent- atives stated their concerns associated with the opening of the service roads of the SH121 Bypass. These issues deal pdmadly with the realization that once the service roads to the Bypass are opened, the increased traffic will create problems from the Legacy area to the DFW Airport. Focus is specifically related to the traffic signal at the intersection of the SHIZ1 Bypass and IH35. Conse- quently, several business representatives questioned whether or not some of the additional federal funding could be used to expedite completion of the main lanes on the SH121 Bypass project. On June 17th, interested participants will have an opportunity to discuss these concerns with Jay Nelson. As Distdct Engineer, he is in a position to influence whether or not a portion of the additional funding may be used to expedite completion of the main lanes. To date, the main lanes are in a priority 2 category (funding has not been allocated toward completion of these lanes), If you have an interest in expediting completion of the main lanes, I encourage you to attend and bring any representatives you feel will have a positive effect on this important issue. I look forward to seeing you.
