The Honorable Tom Morton
Mayor
City of Coppell
P.O. Box 478

Dear Mayor Morton:
In late April, you requested projected traffic volumes near the intersection of S.H. 121 and
F.M. 2499. The S.H. 114/S.H. 121 Major Investment Study (MIS) was just then getting
underway and we informed you that upon completion of the model validation we would be able
to send you the volumes. Thank you for your patience. We have just recently completed the
travel model validation for the year 1995 and are comfortable with the results.
Our horizon, or forecast, year is 2020. Using the regionally approved population and
employment forecasts and the Dallas-Fort Worth Regional Travel Model, we can forecast
traffic for the year 2020. These demographics are under current review to ensure the inclusion
of recently initiated retail development in the area. All affected cities will be invited to
participate in this review. I have enclosed a small map of the Coppell area with 2020 daily
traffic volumes (in thousands) posted on each roadway segment. The roadway network
assumption underlying these projections is the Mobility 2020 Plan which was approved in
December, 1996.
Additional work continues on the MIS. Alternatives being tested in the Grapevine corridor of
S.H. 114 and SH. 121 have the potential for affecting projected traffic volumes in your area of
interest. Please let us know what additional information you would like us to provide. Thank
you for your continued commitment to transportation in the DFW area.
Sincerely,
Michael W. Copeland
